Bill Ward Joined Black Sabbath at GRAMMY Salute To Music Legends Ceremony

Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler reunited with estranged drummer Bill Ward at the GRAMMY Salute To Music Legends awards ceremony and live tribute concert held on Saturday night, May 11th, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, CA.

Ozzy Osbourne sat this one out while he recovers from a bout of illnesses and injuries, but the big news, of course, is that Ward and the other band members are on decent enough terms to be in the same room. Ward has been out of Sabbath since 2012 and did not participate in their extensive farewell tour. Iommi cited physical issues that rendered Ward unable to handle the nightly workload as the reason for his ouster, to which Ward heartily objected.

Interestingly, Ward appeared with Iommi and Butler at another awards ceremony in 2015 — the Ivor Novello Awards — and Ozzy was absent then, too, without the excuse of multiple recent hospitalizations.

The GRAMMY Salute to Music Legends event saw Sabbath honored for the Lifetime Achievement Award alongside George Clinton & Parliament-Funkadelic, Billy Eckstine, Donny Hathaway, Julio Iglesias, Sam & Dave, and Dionne Warwick. Rival Sons performed a set of Sabbath covers at the event.
