In news that certainly won’t bolster the spirits of the former bandmates that are currently suing him, Ghost frontman/mastermind Tobias Forge [aka Papa Emeritus and Cardinal Copia] has made an appearance on one of those “Top 40 Under 40” lists, this one published by the Swedish outlet Expressen.
Forge’s taxable income in 2017 was 7,979,300 Swedish kronor, or $837,000 USD, netting him the #7 spot on the list of top earners under 40 years old in the country. That doesn’t even include anything related to the release and touring cycle for Prequelle, which came out in 2018, meaning his income was possibly even higher last year (with increased expenses, too, as tends to usually be the case).
Four former Nameless Ghouls brought a suit against Forge in 2017, but that suit was dismissed by a judge last year before reaching trial. The former members then requested a new trial due to an alleged conflict of interest involving the judge presiding over the case, although that conflict of interest was later cleared.
The amount of money Forge earned is ultimately irrelevant to the case, which hinged on the prior arrangement between Forge and the other band members, but seeing this information publicly has got to rankle. I certainly wish all those guys the best in their future endeavors.
Ghost will be on tour with Nothing More in North America later this year. Dates:
