Former Nightwish vocalist Tarja Turunen has released a new single entitled “Dead Promises” from her upcoming seventh solo album, In The Raw. The legendary symphonic metal singer has delivered us from evil with a song that is classical and melodic in nature but brings heaviness to the forefront with mellisonant yet chunky riffs that blast in the background while Tarja’s voice flies high and remains in the spotlight throughout. The vocals echo throughout the song in an operatic and grandiose way, reaching climatic crescendos that softly come back down in waves.
Tarja commented on the heavy nature of the song by saying, “If I’m singing powerfully, I need something powerful behind me so that I don’t feel like I am left alone.” You will find that In The Raw will include a different version of “Dead Promises” which features guest vocals by Soilwork vocalist Björn “Speed” Strid. With two Swedish vocalists coming together, get ready to have your ears seduced tenfold. The Tarja-only version will only be available on streaming platforms as a single.
The album is set for release on August 30 and can be pre-ordered here. In the meantime, you can stream the lyric video below.
