“When we played our first shows with Metallica 10-12 years ago, we just weren’t ready for it. It’s a lot to take in.
“You can have all the songs on the radio you want, all the records you want, but until you’ve been playing for a long time and you feel comfortable in your own skin to go up there and also be able to take a step back and know that these aren’t necessarily all your fans…
“If we were to do a [headlining] tour, there wouldn’t be a quarter of the amount of people that are gonna be at these shows – 60,000, 70,000.
“So we feel comfortable in our own skin, but we’re also confident about the product that we’re putting out there. We’re in a much different place now and I think Metallica knows that we’re up for the challenge.
“I think we’re the right guys for it right now because we’ve been playing arenas for the last 10 years or, we have some experience doing big festivals in Europe, I think we can pull it off and give fans a great show before Metallica gets out there.
“I think that’s what Lars and the guys wanted and that’s why we got the call.”
